Gulf Coast British Petroleum Lawsuits

The Deepwater Horizon was owned by Transocean, and was leased to British Petroleum (BP). While initially BP denied the well was leaking, BP executives soon admitted the well was leaking up to 1,000 barrels per day. Changing their estimate several times, it was finally estimated that over 60,000 barrels of oil per day were leaking into the Gulf of Mexico for several months.

Together with the Obama Administration, BP has agreed to create a $20 billion escrow fund to compensate those who have been affected by the explosion and oil spill.
